The Internet is a loud and crowded place. It’s estimated that there are about 1.9 billion Internet users, and more join every day. That’s a lot to compete with!
So even if your product is the best thing in the world, it’s pretty hard to get heard. You’ve got to know how to reach your ideal audience, and once you’ve got them, how to hold on.
Use these tips to make sure your product will speak louder than the rest.
A Great Name: Your product needs a memorable, easy-to-spell, and instantly descriptive name. If it’s generic or hard to remember, you’ll warm them up and promptly lose them to your competitors!
A Dynamic Description: This can be the same as your elevator pitch or unique selling point.It’s a simple and powerful description of your product. It’s another tool to grab customers’ attention and make them 1) remember you, and 2) want to buy your stuff!
A Strong Visual Identity: This may sound intimidating, but it’s actually very simple. It means branding: use the same fonts, colors, and logos on all your materials. Think of a famous brand: Coca-Cola, Nike, Apple. They all have very distinct, instantly recognizable â€œlooksâ€ to them. You know when you’re looking at their materials. That is the power of branding!
A Great Product â€œStory: Your product is great, but it won’t sell itself. You need a story to do that something that is simple, and powerful, and speaks to the reader on a deep level. Many self-made millionaires use the story of their rags-to-riches success. Others use the tale of struggling through personal hardship or realizing their children depended on them for support and inspiration. Whatever your story, is should answer this question: why did you create this product?
Multiple-Channel Promotion: In this world of Internet ubiquity, we can forget that just because something is online, it doesn’t mean everybody’s heard. When you’re announcing a new product, you need to scream it. Send press releases to local papers and local news blogs, send announcements to your industry’s top blogs, send emails to all your contacts. Create videos and post them to YouTube. Tweet about it. Offer promos or discounts to all your Facebook friends. Bottom line: when you’re launching, tell everyone.
Love Your Current Customers: These guys have already bought from you, so they’re a LOT more likely to buy again. Give them that chance! Send them discount coupons, offer promos, even free samples. Make them feel cherished, and they will love you in return.
Keep Up the Quality: This is the last and easiest principle to ignore. But do NOT let success go to your head. Your competition will be only too happy to steal your customers away, once your initial great stuff gives way to cheap filler. Don’t be that flash-in-the-pan. Quality can’t be made cheaply. Invest the time and money, and you’ll be glad you did.
